The Garden of Forking Paths Response

The Garden of Forking Paths by Jorge Luis Borges is not only relevant to our current project but can also be a big influence to other new media artists who have read this text. In the story, a man asks Tsun if he would like to see the garden of the forking paths and informs the man that it is the garden of his ancestor, Ts'ui Pen. They enter a library filled with hundreds of books and manuscripts, finding Ts'ui Pen's novel which in fact is very similar to a "Choose Your Own Adventure" novel. This suggests that creators of Choose Your Own Adventure possibly got their inspiration and ideas from this piece of literature. However, if you take a look at the bigger picture, the digital culture we live in now could all be revolved around Borges' creative mind, especially in this story. Numerous Choose Your Own Adventure sites have been developed over the years with so many different themes and scenarios. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating a Choose Your Own Adventure themed site, book, etc and it possibly started out from this one story created by Borges. Something small turned so big as the digital age has progressed and advanced, allowing creatives to take anything from their imagination and transform in into something accessible to all. In relations to our current project, Choose Your Own Adventure can act as a "base" or "starting point" for us to build off of and expand even further and more in depth. We are able to choose whatever path we would like for this assignment, while still following the guidelines, and get to determine what "adventure" we want the viewers to go on while navigating our sites. Their is no doubt that new media artists have been inspired by Borges imagination because it is part of the foundation that digital media continues to grow and advance from daily.
