3 Text-based Artists I Like
Ben Eine: Eine's distinct typographic style caught my eye while I was browsing through his graffiti works that he has done on buildings, shutters, etc. all over the world. Not only do the bright colors, huge letters, and patterns make his work stand out but the letterform that he's created is unlike any other. It is so unique that viewers know they are looking at Eine's work when viewing it and can recognize the details that make his pieces distinct from others.
Joseph Kosuth: Last year I came across this piece of Kosuth's while walking through the TMA and it caught my eye right away. I have always loved neon signs because of their vibrancy but with this one specifically, I like the simplicity of the typeface that was used to create the piece. The font is not too busy or chaotic on top of the lighting and it is perfectly legible which adds to the cleanliness of Kosuth's work.
Bryce Nauman: Nauman is another text-based artist who does work with neon as well which is obviously appealing to my interests as I stated above in the previous description. However, his pieces tend to include more shapes and figures with words instead of words by themselves. This added aspect makes his work stand out amongst other neon text-based artists and creates a more detailed composition which I enjoy.
