How to Choose A Typeface

Choosing an appropriate typeface for any kind of project that includes typography is so important for the overall display and presentation of the final work. Not only is determining the correct font a must but setting the hierarchy, making sure the text is legible, creating a mood, etc. are all major factors that go into designing using typeface. Being a graphic design major, typography is something that I have had to pay very close attention to detail to and learn deeply about. Anything I create in the future will have an audience that has to view what I put together and without readability/legibility due to poor decisions when determining size, hierarchy, font style, etc. my work is not going to be successful. This is why learning about typography is so necessary, especially being a graphic design major because typeface is highly involved when creating posters, flyers, menus, etc. The audience should be able to feel a certain way and understand the purpose of your work while reading the text. It’s just like communicating with someone in person but turning it into an artistic form.
