"The Oscars Showed Us Why Typography Matters" Response
I can easily remember this mistake being made on The Oscars in 2017, but I had no knowledge as to why it occurred. Although the wrong card was unfortunately handed out, I definitely understand why their was difficulty in reading the card to begin with because the design was poorly made. For an award ceremony as big as The Oscars, it is interesting how the designer of the card chose to go about it. Wouldn’t you want to make something as clear as possible to show exactly who the winner was instead of blending the text together which increased the difficulty in reading it? The lack of hierarchy, which would have made the winner clearer, was an error that easily could have been prevented. I also think that flipping “The Oscars” and “Best Actress” (or whatever award) on the card should have been made because it would have made more sense and allowed the card to be clearer on what award it was for.
