Design Project: Assignment 2

 


1. This design captures my attention largely due to the high contrast between the bright green and black background. I immediately see the green shoe first not only because of its color, but it is right in the center of the poster and is the largest object in terms of hierarchy.

At first look, I see the green shoe as previously stated due to its bright color, location on the page, and large size. It is the vocal point of the poster, grabbing the viewers attention which allows someone to know right off the back that this information is about the specific shoe. My eyes look at the type ("locked down stability") overlaying the shoe next. I feel I am guided in that direction because the shape of the shoe, from left to right, allows my eyes to go up to the text. Although light in color, it is the second largest element in terms of scale as well. After reading the text from top to bottom, my eyes go to the green box with additional information about the product next. Although the text is smaller in size, the green rectangle still allows the information to pop and be legible. Finally, my eyes are guided to the green Nike logo at the very bottom of the poster.  It is the smallest element but still remains visible to the viewer. 

3. The information presented in this design is mainly just the product feature ("locked down stability") that makes it unique from other Nike shoes. The smaller copy consists of the shoe name, color, and style number which is beneficial if someone wants to purchase this specific shoe. However, the main focus is the fact that this shoe has ideal stability that will serve as an aid to athletes not only in terms of comfort but even game play. "Locked down stability" is conveyed in a blocky and bold typeface that allows it to stand out overtop of the shoe. The kerning between the letters also expands the copy, taking up more room on the poster and increasing its importance. The specific shoe information is much smaller in size but having it conveyed in the bright green box still makes it feel important. Obviously the Nike logo and website is found underneath as the smallest elements. However, this works because it is already known at first look that this is a Nike advertisement just by looking at the shoe with the logo. 

4. When looking at this poster I get the emotions of victory, success, and self-improvement. I feel as if someone was to purchase these shoes they would gain some sort of power and advantage. The design does this by, again, having the feature "locked down stability" emphasized and large on the advertisement. This is so viewers will learn what they will acquire when wearing the product.
